Principal's Message

Dear Wildflower Families,

I hope this letter finds you well and excited to begin the new school year. It is a great honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Wildflower Accelerated Academy. I am excited to utilize my experience in maintaining Wildflower’s tradition of excellence as we continue to provide the best education to our students.  I have been an educator for the last 18 years, beginning as a middle school language arts teacher and moving into the roles of new teacher mentor, professional development specialist, achievement advisor, and assistant principal.  My personal areas of passion include literacy and nurturing student leadership.  I am deeply committed to Avondale Elementary School District’s Kids at Hope Philosophy in ensuring that all Wildflower students are able to be successful and reach their future without limits!

As we look forward to the year ahead, I'd like to share with you our school’s areas of focus. We will be in our third year of working toward Visible Learning certification, at Wildflower this will include a focus on teaching students how to approach the “Learning Pit” and how to persevere through rigorous and challenging learning experiences. Students will learn about “learner dispositions” (responsible, compassionate, cooperative, and accountable) that they can use to be successful. Additionally, students will learn how to receive and give effective feedback that enhances and accelerates their learning.  This year we will also continue the implementation of Leader in Me across all grade levels.  We will unite this with our understanding of Visible Learning by adding our “leader dispositions” (self-motivated, engaged, persistent, and curious) to the existing learning about the 7 Habits in order to empower our students to be active leaders in the classroom and at school functions. Each week, students will engage in direct lessons about the highly effective practices that support strong leaders, and will document their growing leadership in their leadership portfolios.

As family members you are an essential part of Wildflower’s ability to achieve its mission. Together we have a shared responsibility to ensure that our students are growing as learners and leaders who are empowered to reach their goals.  Your involvement and support strengthens our school community. I look forward to collaborating with you throughout the year to better serve our children.

In closing, I’d like to share my gratitude for the warm welcome that I have received from many of you.  Wildflower is truly a special place and it is made great by the combined talents of our staff, students and our families. As we begin this year together, I welcome you to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have, so that we can continue to improve and provide the strongest education possible for our students.

Warm Regards,

Sarah Rose
